I entered Dynamic Signs (then Dynamic Print Solutions) as a production and installation assistant, and within a few months progressed to leading the installation team and taking responsibility for all in-house graphic design and pre-production design.
During my 7+ years with the company I have gained valuable experience in every aspect of the workings of a sign shop. I have also developed some skill in installing vehicle wraps and have passed this on by training other installers.
My main responsibilities currently are graphic design and production and project management.
I am responsible for managing the production floor in our shop and I oversee the production and installation teams from day to day.
I have received in-depth training on the operation, maintenance and repair of our Fluidcolor R34F UV flatbed printer and Kongsberg X24 cutting table (which includes tooling for milling, ridgid knife, HF knife, crease tool, kiss-cut and braille).
Plumex was the family business established by my late father in 1983. I more or less grew up in it, having varying degrees of involvement throughout my life. I took over management of the business full time in 2011 due to my father’s failing health, and took ownership of the business in 2016 when the Lord Jesus took my father to be with Himself. I closed the business in April 2017 when I left South Africa.
Allen’s Woodworks was a custom furniture manufacturing business, and its sister company Allen’s Trading Co. was an importer and wholesaler of hardwood decking and woodworking hardware & tools. My reponsbility in both companies was the design & production of marketing materials (signage, print & web), the development and execution of marketing strategies and managing customer relationships.
I left Allen’s to take over the management of my father’s plumbing business.
Sign Vision was a small sign shop that produced cut vinyl signs & vehicle graphics. The owner of the company also owned a plastic fabrication company. I was the graphic designer, signmaker and installer for the sign company and also assisted with technical design for the plastic fabrication company.
I left the company to take up a more promising position at Allen’s Woodworks.
I have done freelance graphic design work as a sideline since high school. In 2003 I made it an official business under the name Diverse Agencies. I began selling branded promotional merchandise, as well as signage and vehicle graphics, doing the design and installs myeslf, and outsourcing the production to various sign shops.
Diverse Agencies is more or less dormant now, but I have retained the name in case of future use, and continue to provide graphic design support to several old customers on an ongoing basis.
